SprayWorks Equipment Group Provides Equipment, Materials, and Training at Waverly Hills Sanatorium

LOUISVILLE, KY–March 18, 2013–Waverly Hills Sanatorium, located just outside of Louisville, Kentucky, is considered among the most haunted places in America. Since coming into new ownership in the early 2000's, the building has hosted scores of ghost hunters and paranormal enthusiasts. Currently, Waverly is undergoing a long-term restoration project that incorporates a significant application of spray foam insulation.Specifically, Waverly is slated to have spray foam installed on the underside of the decking between the floors of the building.

While most of the restoration is being handled on-site by the Waverly maintenance crew, spray foam's specialized application process dictated that Waverly seek out an SPF contractor to get the job done. Despite contacting numerous spray foam contractors about the project, not a single contracting company submitted a bid. Whether or not that had anything to do with Waverly's haunting reputation remains unseen, but it was clear that the SPF insulation would have to be installed by the Waverly crew.

In short, they needed material and equipment, and they needed to learn how to apply foam properly. So, the Waverly crew contacted SprayWorks Equipment Group to advise them on how to proceed.

"They wanted a small, reliable machine that they could move throughout Waverly, yet maintain the production capability to handle a project of this size, allowing them to spray foam sections as the project progresses," explained SprayWorks' Dave Penta.

Penta advised the Waverly crew that PMC's new PH-20 hydraulic proportioner would provide the best solution for the project. Along with the proportioner, SprayWorks provided personal protective equipment (PPE), transfer pumps, heated hoses, and PMC's AP-2 spray gun. Also, the Waverly crew settled on Gaco Western's 2 lb. closed-cell WallFoam to insulate the structure.

With the equipment and materials finalized, there was just one thing left to address before the application could get started: training. Penta personally delivered the equipment to Waverly and then conducted the training on-site, which covered general health and safety practices, PPE recommendations, and SPF installation methods and limitations. The training continued with the spray foam equipment, focusing on topics like spray gun maintenance, pump operation, temperature adjustments, pressure settings, and preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.

"The Waverly crew paid attention to the details and showed their ability to adapt quickly to the insulation process," said Penta. "Right out of the box, they were installing a quality and aesthetically pleasing profile."

The SPF insulation application will cover roughly 800,000 square feet when all is said and done. Because the restoration is being completed section by section, the entire project won't be completed for some time. However, Penta assured the Waverly crew that SprayWorks would provide ongoing support as the project progresses.

SprayFoam.com and Spray Foam Insulation & Roofing Magazine will continue covering the Waverly Hills restoration as the project progresses.
