One Vision, One Show

Spray Foam Magazine – Summer 2025 – The Spray Foam Magazine team engaged in a fascinating conversation with Stacey Mizera. She is the Organizer/Admin at the North American Foam Alliance (NAFA), the owner of Total Site Services in Canada, and works in life insurance medicals. In our discussion, we explored her plans for launching a spray foam show in Canada and the importance she places on uniting the Canadian spray foam industry.
What inspired you to start a show for the spray foam industry in Canada? My husband, Lane, tried to convince me to attend the SPFA event in Daytona Beach in 2023, which would have been his first time there. I declined, thinking it would just be a lot of shop talk and presentations that I wouldn't get much out of. However, after he returned and explained what the event was about and showed me pictures, I became more interested.
In the summer of 2023, I decided to drive to Minnesota for the SFWW carnival. After attending I talked to Lane about how Canada could benefit from this style of event. It would be a place for contractors to meet and put faces to names instead of just profiles, as well as an opportunity for distributors and manufacturers to connect personally with their clientele.
How did you get started in the spray foam industry? We bought a hoarder's house 15 years ago (2010) and decided to do most of the work ourselves. We found a used spray foam trailer not far from us and decided to purchase it to upgrade the insulation for our home. We fixed up the unit and on Lane’s Lane days off he started doing family and friends insulation. In 2015 we started up our company and in 2017 Lane left his site foreman job with the coal industry to pursue spray foam full time.
If you could change one thing about the industry, what would it be? Enhanced training requirements. I hear a lot of negative stories impacting the spray foam reputation due to lack of knowledge and training in the field, not every job is the same and it's a career where you need to constantly be growing and adapting to challenging situations.
What makes this the right time to launch this show? The U.S. shows have gained significant popularity, and with the spray foam industry rapidly expanding, now feels like the perfect time to launch a Canadian version. This event will create valuable opportunities for contractors to connect with new distributors and manufacturers, while also strengthening existing relationships.
The current exchange rate—averaging around 40 cents on the dollar—makes it financially attractive for U.S. attendees as well. Before making it official, we conducted research and gathered feedback through social media, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. There’s a lot of excitement about bringing an event like this to Canada.
Does the spray foam convention and expo in the U.S. not meet Canadian company needs? While the majority of offerings do meet the needs of Canadians, there are still some challenges. Travel can be an issue for certain individuals, particularly those who are unable to enter the United States. Economic conditions can also make it difficult to justify the expense. Additionally, some presentations and product-specific talks may not be relevant to Canadians, especially when those products aren’t available here. Our unique climate and region-specific challenges are not always addressed in these sessions.
What are your main goals for the first year of the show? I have to say the main goals are for everyone to have fun, have it all organized and run smoothly, and for everyone to make those quality connections both personal and professional. This NAFA Show is for all North America, and we have an even mix of Americans and Canadians registered to attend right now.
How do you envision this trade show impacting the Canadian spray foam industry? Every trade profession should be or is united, despite being competitors whether it be contractors, distributors and/or manufacturers we are all in the same industry. There are industry standards to follow, and some individuals may not be aware of this entering into this industry, it is not as simple as throwing on some coveralls and go spray a wall. NAFA hopes to unite, enhance, and promote education-based content assisting everyone from homeowners looking to utilize spray foam to installers on all levels.

How did you choose the location for the show? I chose to host it in Calgary, Alberta due to a couple reasons. One being Calgary has the largest airport in Alberta and offers a lot more direct flight options. Another reason was that it is within an hour to Banff National Park and a couple hours to other national parks giving a lot of options for people to extend the holiday a bit and take in some popular sites of the Rocky Mountains.
WinSport Day Lodge & Hill was a perfect fit for our trade show. They have on-site activities from downhill go karts to luge and mini golf ensuring no one is bored. They have made it so easy to work with them on all aspects and I cannot say enough good things about the team at WinSport.
Who is involved in organizing the show? I’m currently in the midst of planning the show and feel incredibly fortunate to have such a strong network of support from across North America. It never ceases to amaze me how companies—both big and small—consistently step up to contribute in meaningful ways. This industry is truly something special. We’re especially grateful to have Genyk as our Platinum Chemical Sponsor, also supporting "Coffee with Carla," and Gord Maginnis Spray Products as our Platinum Rig Builder Sponsor. Gord will also serve as one of the three judges for the Rig Show and Shine.
Elastochem is proudly sponsoring the spray competition and hosting a Western-themed Rig Show and Shine. The support from foam manufacturers has been outstanding, with many eagerly signing up for presentations and leading technical demonstrations and talks. I’ve also received invaluable technical assistance from Toronto Spray Foam Parts and their partners at Boost Outsourcing Solutions, who were instrumental in building the website and designing the event posters. Bolair Fluid Handling Systems and Graco are lending their expertise to our gun-building competition, while Spray Foam Magazine has helped in promoting the event through this article and featured ads on their website.
We’re deeply grateful to all our partners, Including Carlisle, Cortez Industries, JobPro Technology, Cinch Communications, Insulead, Chem-Trend, and International Fireproof Technology. We look forward to recognizing the industry experts who will be sharing their insights on the main stage.
