FireStop TB™ Provides Fireproof Coating and Thermal Protection Over Foam

Nolanville, TX - May 31, 2011 - Amerrock, LP completes testing with FireStop TB™ to become an equivalent to drywall and to become the most competitively priced thermal barrier over all spray foam today.
With Appendix X now in effect the need for an Ignition / Thermal Barrier is at the forefront of the Spray foam industry. The question now is “How to become compliant with the code and at the same time remain as competitively priced in a market that is still depressed?” Amerrock Products, LP the manufacturer of Rockwool Premium Plus™ Insulation has developed the most cost effective and complete solution available in the market today FireStop TB™. Glenn Holland, Vice President, of RSG Building Solutions, a major supplier of foam products in the Southeastern US stated, “This is a particular concern to us as a supplier of SPF. Our product already commands a premium price and with the additional cost for an ignition or thermal barrier our fear is that people will not be able to afford our products. We are confident that FireStop TB™ provides that solution.”
William Pedersen of Green Certification Roofing and Insulation states, "As a spray foam contractor in South Florida, this is a real concern of ours for our customers. In a crisis situation, using your time wisely is often the key to survival. If most fires start in the attic and it happens to occur at night, at what point during that 4 minutes and 18 seconds of protection that an intumescent ignition barrier provides does a homeowner wake up and realize their house is on fire? With the FireStop TB™ you are providing that home owner and the fire department some addition critical time needed, by using a fire resistant material over the foam". Mr. Pedersen further explained that "Another benefit is the flame spread and smoke index. With a smoke index of 0 and a flame spread of 5, in the unfortunate event of a fire, particularly in large homes, this would give the occupants the ability to see where they are going to escape the building".
FireStop TB™ not only provides a fireproof coating over the foam, but thermal protection as well. This benefit alone provides a significant cost savings over the intumescent coatings, because with an R-Value in excess of 4 per inch you can reduce one inch of closed cell foam and two inches of open cell. By doing this you achieve a number of benefits:
- Increase slightly or maintain your current R-Value.
- Spraying over the foam and the rafters eliminates thermal bridging at the roof deck
- You have fireproofed the entire underside of the roof deck
- Satisfy building codes and provide the code official with an easy inspection which translates to less red tags.
- Introduce one of the best sound absorption products on the market today into the attic to absorb those sounds that would normally bounce around and travel from room to room.
The current national average for thermal barrier coating material is upwards of a $1.00 per sq. ft. The national average net cost of FireStop TB™ after reduction of 2” of open cell foam would be .08 per sf for a true thermal barrier. The net cost of FireStop TB™ after reduction of 1” of closed cell foam would net a reduction and SAVINGS of about .14¢ per sf for a true thermal barrier. Please note these rates may vary based on geographical location in the U.S.
FireStop TB™ has passed the NFPA 275 Standard Method of Fire Test for the Evaluation of Thermal Barriers Used Over Foam Plastic Insulation Part 1 and Part 2. The test was conducted with both open and closed cell foams. This test provides acceptance as a thermal barrier over all foam plastic insulation products.
