Building Science & Construction, Inc. Completes Massachusetts School Project

NATICK, MA - January 12, 2012 - This week, Building Science & Construction, Inc. celebrated the successful completion of a large-scale insulation job in Natick, Massachusetts.

“We’re literally just now finishing up,” said Kyle Martin, owner of Building Science, when SprayFoam.com spoke to him last Friday. “Tomorrow should be our last day.”

Spray foam insulation was the company’s contribution to a massive project soon to be Natick High School. The 65-million-dollar school is being built from the ground up, and upon completion will stretch over 220,000 square feet.

“It’s starting to look just like the design pictured online,” Martin said, referring to a graphic illustration posted on Ai3 Architects’ Web site, the architecture firm responsible for the building (Take a look at the illustration, as well as other photos from the project, in the photo gallery). “It’s going to be a really, really nice school.”

Martin and his team applied 1 1/2 inches of closed-cell foam on all exterior walls and soffits of the school, totaling in 134,000 square feet of application substrate. The insulating process started in December and went off without a hitch.

“We’ve had a decent winter so far,” Martin said, explaining that temperate conditions help ease outdoor applications.

Martin has been in the insulation business for 20 years, and over time shifted into the spray foam industry. “We also offer air barrier and waterproofing services, as we have grown to focus more on building science and energy efficiency,” he said.

He pointed to foam’s ability to air-seal as a major reason why it’s the best insulating option out there. “It’s energy efficient,” he explained, “and air-sealing is half the battle when you’re trying to keep the heat or the cold in-- or out.”
