VersaFlex Inc. Employees Participate in New Underwriters Laboratory of Canada Standard

KANSAS CITY, KS–June 20, 2012–In May 2012, Underwriters Laboratory of Canada (ULC Standards) released the First Edition of CAN/ULC-S668-12: “Standard for Liners Used for Secondary Containment of Aboveground Flammable and Combustible Liquid Tanks.” This new standard replaces the earlier document, ULC/ORD-C58.9-1997: “Secondary Containment Liners for Underground and Aboveground Flammable and Combustible Liquid Tanks.”

For secondary containment work in Canada, suppliers and applicators of the polyurea technology were relying on the old ULC/ORD-C58.8-1997 document as a reference of suitability, even though spray-applied liner systems were not included. While work was being performed with polyurea systems, there were some industry concerns that no standards were available for such usage, which presented challenges in specifying large project implementation. The new CAN/ULC-S688-12 Standard addresses the use of spray-on-type liner systems, including the polyurea technology.

Mr. Jeff Downing, VP and Director of Sales & Marketing for VersaFlex, Inc., was a participating member of the ULC Standards Task Group, while Dudley Primeaux, VersaFlex's Director of Education & Development, was a member of the ULC Standards Working Group for this new Standard. Their participation began back in early 2009, when a need for identifying and qualifying the use of polyurea technology as a viable secondary containment lining system was made obvious due to the volume of work being performed in that area. As with all volunteer standard development work, the process took some time. Their dedicated participation and input has led to a standard that will benefit our polyurea industry.
