New IFTI Coating Successfully Passes Two Third-Party Room Corner Burn Tests

IRVINE, CA–July 8, 2014–International Fireproof Technology Inc. (IFTI) announced today two successful tests of a new fire-retardant coating, DC4000. IFTI submitted the new coating to third party testing at QAI in August of 2013.

“DC4000 is a new hard coating for Thermal Barrier protection,” said Gary Wolfe, Executive Vice President of IFTI. “It is remarkably durable, can be top-coated with any kind of coating, can reduce smoke, and extend testing time. It’s a coating solution for foams that are difficult to protect.”

DC4000 was tested in two room corner burn tests conducted in accordance with NFPA 286 standards. The coating was tested over two non-rated/non-compliant BASF and Baymer spray foams (neither have passed the ASTM E84 tunnel test). DC4000 was applied at 130 mils WFT with normal application equipment.

During testing, there was zero foam ignition or propagation of fire. The smoke produced never exceeded 12%, and about a third of that was produced by the fuel source. The ambient and ceiling temperatures never exceeded 400 degrees F.

“DC4000 could be a game-changer for the Thermal Barrier market and the SPF industry…it could redefine fire protection of SPF in America,” said Wolfe. "We feel it can pass a 275 test maybe as long as one hour with the same results.“

DC4000 does not function like an intumescent coating, but instead acts as a thermal barrier shield. It is a high-build, single-coat product that doesn’t need to be mixed–just open, pour, and spray.

“DC4000 is strong and will stand up to abuse in a warehouse, public building, or any high-traffic area,” said Wolfe. “After the tests, I literally beat on the walls with a 5 lb. hammer and there was no damage.”

When dry, DC4000 offers a very smooth surface texture and is black in color, although it can be top-coated with any interior finish without affecting performance. DC4000 can be used inside or outside (with additional coating protection), and it can be washed, scrubbed, sprayed with hot water, and exposed to UV.
