Dow Products Receive NAHB Green Approved Mark

Dow Building Solutions building envelope products have received the NAHB Research Center Green Approved mark, making Dow the first to have both its energy saving insulation and air sealing products eligible for meeting mandatory requirements or earning points under the National Green Building Standard.  Now, all NAHB "Green Approved" products from Dow are pre-loaded onto the NAHB's online Green Scoring Tool , making it more convenient for builders to calculate points that could contribute to a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Emerald green building certification.

"Having Dow's insulation and air sealing products NAHB-approved and pre-loaded takes the guesswork out of selecting which products will increase a home's Green Score," said John Hammer, residential market manager for Dow Building Solutions, North America. "Builders can use any of Dow's NAHB Green Approved building envelope products and know their choice will help them either meet mandatory requirements or earn points and bring them closer to achieving their project's overall energy efficiency goals."

Along with other components and systems used in a home, Dow's products can contribute to earning an additional 30-120 points in the Energy Cost Performance Levels credit category (702.2), depending on the overall percentage of energy efficiency improvements for a particular building.  NAHB "Green Approved" products from Dow include all STYROFOAM™ Brand Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) Foam Insulation, the award-winning STYROFOAM SIS™ Brand Structural Insulated Sheathing, Dow polyisocyanurate insulation, STYROFOAM™ Brand Spray Polyurethane Foam InsulationGREAT STUFF PRO™ Insulating Foam SealantsENERFOAM™ Professional Foam SealantsFROTH-PAK™ Foam Sealant kit, and THERMAX™ Insulation.

STYROFOAM™ Brand XPS Foam Insulation and polyisocyanurate insulation products from Dow are ENERGY STAR qualified and can be used in conjunction with Dow's air sealing products to help builders and homeowners earn energy tax credits  provided by the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Providing more reasons to choose foam insulation for sustainable design, Dow has begun converting its facilities that manufacture STYROFOAM™ Brand Insulation to its new proprietary no-VOC, zero ozone-depleting foaming agent technology and is well positioned to complete conversion of its plants in advance of the Montreal Protocol deadline. The first plant converted to the technology in Dalton, Ga., relies on methane gas harvested from a nearby landfill to reduce the amount of fossil fuels typically consumed during production.  The second Dow Building Solutions plant in Hanging Rock, Ohio, also converted this month.
