DC315: More Than Just the Spray Polyurethane Foam Industry's Leading Ignition and Thermal Barrier

IRVINE, CA – April 8, 2015 – Who would have thought five years ago that we would be applying spray polyurethane foam in so many diverse ways? Clearly the use of coatings that meet the applicable requirements of 2006 IBC Section 803.2.1? 2009 IBC Section 803.2.1 and Section 2603.9? 2012 IBC Section 803.2.1 and Section 2603.10 Special Approval for Thermal Barrier Alternatives and as an Ignition Barrier per AC 377, Appendix X, has been one of the catalysts for this growth.

As the market grows, so should your expectations of the coating and company that you use to meet the aforementioned codes. Let's be realistic, many of you have much more important things to do, like work on bids and make money, not spend your valuable time researching compliance of your SPF and coating combination. At International Fireproof Technology, Inc. (IFTI), developers and manufacturers of Paint to Protect's DC315 have always made SPF applicators our number one concern. We look to continue to support SPF applicators via education and full disclosure of testing and information.

DC315, the SPF industry's leading TB and IB coating, is much more than "just a thermal barrier." It has yielded many jobs that competitive products do not have the testing to support the application. At IFTI, we don't just tell you that DC315 can be used in many ways, we test and give you proof.

  • ANSI 51 for incidental food contact
  • Tested vapor barrier assembly
  • Topcoat for color choices
  • Cold storage assembly testing
  • Single component product for thermal and ignition Barrier, with over 169 tests over 39 of the largest spray polyurethane foams in the industry
  • The only SPF coating that is marked and listed in compliance with Intertek’s third party quality assurance program.

In early 2015, we expect to be issued an ICCES Report Number, allowing us to cross-list SPF manufacturers in their matrix and validate our testing, manufacturing, application techniques and, most importantly, offer your code officials new levels of assurance and compliance. The ACC 456 criteria out for public comment shortly is a much needed bridge to close the gap that most code officials feel exist in the current code. We expect overwhelming support as the criteria will help reduce your liability and increase understanding and support, even from the toughest code officials.

IFTI is leading the way in Canada to acceptance of coatings over SPF. We are working with "The National Research Council" (NRC), Canada's premier organization for research and development, and The Canadian Urethane Foam Contractors Association (CUFCA). We expect huge market growth in 2015 via these collaborations.

DC315 has passed testing and is approved in over 20 countries and we are in the process of testing in 9 more countries.

In March of 2015, IFTI will launch a DC315 certification program for applicators, contractors, AHJ code officials, architects, and fire marshals. Our training and education program will be offered on a nationwide basis by distributors, manufacturers, and of course, directly from IFTI. IFTI's certified applicator list will be circulated to state fire marshals. The list will appear online showing the applicator's location on a U.S. map, which will allow consumers, builders, and potential SPF customers to contact the applicator with a click of a mouse. We are confident this commitment to our SPF partners will result in quicker approvals, more jobs, more profit, and more opportunities to sell your SPF and/or coatings expertise on preapproved lists.

IFTI will soon be releasing DC4000, a one-component, water-based coating for SPF. DC4000 is 30minuteplustested fire protective coating. While the code does not require 30 minutes plus, DC4000 offers extended protection, substantially less smoke, less heat flux, and almost zero fire propagation of the SPF. DC4000 can be top coated with virtually any coating, and most importantly, it will stand up to significant abuse…. even pounding on it with a hammer. After a DC4000 burn test, the surface remained hard as a rock, not even an earthquake could detach it from the treated surface. IFTI believes this new industry changing product, DC4000, will offer expanded use of SPF by focusing on additional life safety. IFTI has had dozens of requests from state fire marshals, insurance companies, and AHJ's not for the everyday jobs but the large scale market needing extended protection. DC4000 will not only be tested to NFPA 286, but we intend to test to NFPA 275 as an optional "prescriptive solution" for the SPF market. Since this will be a true prescriptive thermal barrier, there will be many markets using it, including the very lucrative SPF oil and gas (O&G) market. Our stay-in-place and durability will result in many opportunities for high occupancy buildings with federal, state, military and insurance jobs that we have been working on preapprovals as we get final testing in place. We are already working with FM and Zurich to obtain approval numbers in 2015 on DC315, DC4000, and DC1650.

We are confident our DC1650, a water-based, thin-film solution, is the long awaited coating for the NFPA 285 requirements. DC1650 is in testing with FM for exterior weather approval, so that it can be used for exterior applications on SPF and other substrates.

Also in 2015 we will be launching our full line of coatings and Firestop products in the United States and Canada. Manufactured by International Carbide Technology this product line is UL/cUL Certified (R20868), certified to BS, CNS, and UAE standards and FM Approved.

IFTI thanks its customers for their support and partnership. IFTI's commitment remains the same: to expand the SPF market via new products and testing that will allow SPF to be applied and protected in every location possible. IFTI hopes this sneak peek into IFTI/Paint To Protect's 2015 gets you excited about their future growth, as a manufacturer should be a partner who helps you grow your business.
