Spray Foam Nation Advocates Proper Training for Spray Foam Industry Success

WEST HAVEN, CT – May 29, 2015 – Spray Foam Nation (SFN) believes that a crucial component required for the spray foam industry to hit the ground running is proper training and support. As a spray foam distributor that provides numerous services ranging from spray rig engineering to hands-on training, SFN’s mission is to put spray foam contractors in the best position to succeed.
“Spray foam insulation, the future of insulation, needs a lot of attention,” said Peter Cantone, general manager of SFN. “If we don’t give it enough attention, many good contractors could see their investments turn into financial nightmare. The first step needed to protect said investments begins with proper training.”
Under the new ownership of United Energy Conservation, LLC, which took place In February 2015, SFN has rapidly transitioned from a local entity into a nationwide SPF industry presence. According to Cantone, this growth is due to the positive impact of their new ownership, as they invested in a deeper inventory and further promoted SFN with a number of effective marketing campaigns. Cantone added that the new ownership provided SFN with new life, which resulted from a business model revamp.
“We are no longer simply selling foam, equipment, and other SPF equipment as a distributor,” said Cantone. “We now want to service the industry by performing training, equipment services, and spray rig building for contractors while working withfoam suppliers rather than competing against them. In the past, when we sold 55-gallon drum sets of chemical, we had a different relationship. We are now focused on being a support system to SPF suppliers who want to provide the highest
level of service and support to their contractors throughout the Northeast.””
SFN prepares contractors for SPFA’s Professional Certification Program (PCP) during a five-day training course offered every month at their West Haven, CT facility. Throughout the course, SFN provides hands-on equipment training, spray rigs demonstrations, and energy code education.
To enhance the quality of their facility-based training, SFN recently hired Shawn Radonski as their new SPF Technician and Trainer. Radonski was brought in specifically to handle SFN’s local training and simultaneously run SFN’s parts and service department. Radonski arrived at SFN equipped with an extensive background in SPF, having operated his own SPF contracting company for over 10 years.
“Shawn has been through the learning process and understands what it’s like to not get the support that is direly needed or to not be trained properly by other distributors and foam manufacturers,” said Cantone. “SFN believes it is providing solutions so that new contractors, much like Shawn was 10 years ago, don’t have to go through the painful, expensive process of having to learn everything on their own. Shawn has a clear understanding of the importance of what SFN’s goal is because he didn’t have an SFN to help him. As our trainer, he can communicate these pitfalls while preparing trainees for the SPFA exams.”
Nationwide training is another focus for SFN. They are currently holding a four-day training in a different city in the Northeast region of the U.S. with one goal in mind: helping over 120 contractors get SPFA-certified over the next 12 months. While at each city, SFN offers jobsite training and SPFA Field Examinations.
“We believe every contractor in the SPF industry should be SPFA certified: it is the only real certification,” said Cantone.
