Alumni Profile: Sam and Brenda DiLoreto – 2026 Alumni Innovation Award Recipient

Sam DiLoreto: BSc ’93, Applied Chemistry
Sam DiLoreto is President and Owner of Elastochem Specialty Chemicals, a Canadian advanced materials manufacturer specializing in polyurethane and specialty chemical technologies. Since starting the company, Sam has led its growth from a 6,000-square-foot start-up into a 250,000-square-foot advanced materials manufacturer serving customers across North America and international markets.
A chemist by training, Sam earned a BSc in organic polymer chemistry from the University of Waterloo and has more than 30 years of experience in polymer science. He specializes in the development of polyurethane and specialty chemical formulations from concept to commercialization and has played a key role in bringing innovative technologies to market.
His expertise spans polyurethane chemistry, adhesion science and polymer characterization.

Under Sam's leadership, Elastochem has become a recognized leader in sustainable polyurethane innovation, including the development of low-carbon technologies, the early adoption of low-GWP HFO blowing agents and formulations incorporating recycled plastics. An inventor on more than 20 patents related to polyurethane materials, insulation technologies and engineered systems, Sam remains actively involved in product development, technical education and industry advancement. He is also committed to supporting the next generation of scientists and industry professionals through co-op programs, student mentorship and university partnerships.
Brenda DiLoreto: BSc ’93, Applied Chemistry
For more than 25 years, Brenda DiLoreto has helped shape the growth and evolution of Elastochem Specialty Chemicals, where she serves as Vice President. A graduate of the University of Waterloo with a BSc in chemistry, Brenda began her career at British Drug House before joining Elastochem in its early years.
Since then, she has helped shape the company’s operations and build the foundation that has supported its evolution into one of Canada’s leading polyurethane manufacturers.
Drawing on a unique combination of scientific expertise and business leadership, Brenda continues to play a pivotal role in advancing innovation, manufacturing excellence and the company’s long-term success.
