NAHB Unveils Two Show Homes at International Builders' Show
ORLANDO, FL – January 9, 2017 - The National Association of Home Builders' (NAHB) Leading Suppliers Council, in collaboration with Professional Builder magazine, today unveiled the two official show homes of the International Builders' Show (IBS): The New American Home® 2017 and The New American Remodeled Home® 2017. This is only the second time a remodeled home has been showcased during the annual trade show. IBS attendees can tour the homes Jan. 10-12.

Both homes are in Orlando's Lake Nona Golf & Country Club community and both were designed and built by the Phil Kean Design Group. The team also included landscape architect Mills Design Group of Oviedo, Fla., technology integrator Habitech Systems of Ormond Beach, Fla., healthy home environment consultant Wellness Within Your Walls of Atlanta and green build consultant Two Trails Inc. of Sarasota, Fla.

"Throughout its 34-year history, The New American Home program has delivered some of the most extraordinary homes ever built, and this year's homes are no exception," said NAHB Chairman Ed Brady, a home builder and developer from Bloomington, Ill. "We are thrilled to see the return of a remodeled show home in addition to the new home. The homes' sophisticated design, exceptional quality and impressive efficiency ratings are just remarkable, and will certainly spur additional innovations across the building industry."

·The New American Home boasts more than 8,245 square feet on a single-story floor plan. The home takes full advantage of its lakefront views and incorporates openness with an abundance of windows and large, sliding glass doors that open to a central courtyard and putting green. Styled as "pod living," the home includes adjustable walls allowing it to adapt to either large events or intimate gatherings.

·The New American Remodeled Home features 4,631 square feet of completely renovated living space that is projected to be 75 percent more energy efficient than its original 1987 version. The remodel involved a reconfiguration of the interior to create an open floor plan to fit modern lifestyles. The project also made the home significantly stronger by addressing residual damage from two fires it sustained in 1990s.

Both homes are projected to achieve Emerald status¬--the highest of the four levels of green building recognized by the ICC 700 National Green Building Standard. Other anticipated certifications for both homes include the Department of Energy's Energy Star, Builders Challenge qualified/Build America Program and Net Zero Energy Home, EPA Indoor airPLUS qualified and the private Wellness Within Your Walls designation.

Achieving such high honors was largely made possible by incorporating state-of-the-art green building products. Each home features photovoltaic (solar) panels, spray-foam insulation, high-SEER air handlers, intelligent lighting, auto-adjusting, climate-sensitive irrigation systems and tankless water heaters in addition to a full array of energy-efficient appliances.

"Our primary goal with these homes was to use only the latest design trends and building techniques to inspire builders from all over the world with fresh ideas that they could incorporate into their own projects," said Phil Kean, president of Phil Kean Design Group. "Each home required an incredible amount of effort from an extremely talented team of building professionals, and I'm confident that we not only achieved our goal, but that we've surpassed all expectations."
