Texas-Based Spray Foam Equipment Distributor Gives Perspective On Industry Training

FORT WORTH, TX – May 3, 2013 - Southwest Air Equipment (SAE) is dedicated to providing the right equipment and hands-on training for contractors in or looking to get into the spray foam business. Based out of Fort Worth, TX, SAE is a Graco distributor providing a variety of equipment for the spray polyurethane foam insulation contractor ranging from spray guns and proportioners to fully assembled turn-key rigs. SAE services Texas and its surrounding states. Aside from spray foam equipment, their product groups include manufacturing, aerospace, and woodshop markets.
SAE covers the spectrum from contractors who are experienced with spray foam insulation to newcomers with an interest in the market.
“We will literally take a guy that wants to get into the business, from A to Z, “ said SAE representative Darren Plowman. “We will literally discuss the whole setup and where he wants to go; we will design his equipment package and his rig; we will build it and then train him.”
In order to conduct the proper training for spray foam applications, SAE opted for having both in-house and on-site technicians so that new contractors may become SPF-savvy. The company also holds an annual training seminar.
Plowman believes that comprehensive training is absolutely essential - crewmembers need to be educated in the products they use. Moreover, he says that he supports the SPFA Professional Certification Program (PCP), stating that even though it’s a fairly new development and not a requirement, he understands the impact it can have when one contractor is certified and another one isn’t.
“I think it’s very vital to our industry,” Plowman said. “I think if we are not regulating and properly training our people we are asking for government intervention, so I’m excited about it, I think it’s a step in the right direction.”
SAE has been contacted to give classes for the PCP, which holds four different levels of certifications for both roofing and insulation. Plowman claims that SAE is very interested in moving forward with the certification process.
In addition to his view on training, Plowman added that there should be more of an emphasis on safety standards across the board.
“We sell and promote safety products and I think that needs to be really stressed in our industry. I still see too many guys spraying without adequate respiratory protection and I think that continues to be an issue that we need to address,” Plowman said. “That’s one reason I’m glad that the certification program is being put in place; we need to continue stressing proper PPE and that the contractors are providing it for their sprayers."
