Spray foam insulation to improve energy efficiency of new houses in Naples, Florida

In Florida, the housing market has been reeling since the financial crisis took hold in 2007, with foreclosures still high in many parts of the state. In an effort to woo new buyers, contractors are building new homes with the latest in energy efficiency technology like spray foam insulation, according to a published report.

Naples News reports that Quail West, a 1,180-acre luxury community in the northern part of Naples, is set to have new homes constructed on the property. A team of designers has worked together to come up with plans for the 24 new houses, and they will all feature a number of energy efficiency upgrades intended to increase their value and lower owners' monthly utility costs.

The homes are based on one of three separate layouts, and according to builders they all feature some of the same technologies. For example, in an effort to increase energy efficiency and lower cooling and heating costs, a specially trained crew was contracted to apply spray foam insulation in the attic.

The houses are 3,500 to 4,500 square feet built on 95-by-200-foot lots, but as a result of their energy efficiency measures, the designers project they will have lower monthly utility costs than significantly smaller homes.
