SPF Applicator Aims to Insulate Northern Idaho & Surrounding Region

SANDPOINT, ID - May 7, 2012 - In Northern Idaho, it's easy to understand why those residing in the region would opt for spray foam insulation to keep their homes warm. For Bob and Rhonda Backman, owners of AirSeal Insulation Inc., that regional mindset is a way of life.

Originally, the Backmans had been builders of rental housing units. Always keeping a keen on energy efficiency, they used spray foam insulation in one of their construction projects as a key component in that initiative.

"When we discovered spray foam and decided to put in our houses, they were so efficient," Rhonda Backman said.

While the Backmans were thrilled with the performance of SPF insulation, it's application was another matter. Foam applicators in that part of the state were few and far between–a circumstance that ended up being more of a gift than a curse.

"At that time, there really wasn't anybody spraying foam, so we thought it was a good business opportunity," Rhonda Backman said.

In taking advantage of the opportunity, the Backmans started AirSeal in 2002. With a keen eye on quality and environmental responsibility, AirSeal utilizes Demilec foam for their SPF projects.

"We want the safest, healthiest and highest performing insulation systems available today," said Rhonda Backman. "So we prefer Demilec over other brands."

The implementation of Demilec has boded well for AirSeal in terms of client satisfaction, case in point being an interior insulation project in a 3800 sq. ft. custom-built home in Sandpoint, Idaho.

"It was a beautifully detailed house," said Bob Backman. "There was a lot of post and beam framing in it."

The application called for both the walls and the attic to be insulated with Demilec Sealection Agribalance open cell spray foam. The walls were be applied with 4.7" of foam, with the attic receiving an additional 3.8" on top of that (R-values of 21 and 38, respectively).

A crew of three insulated the home in a matter of days during mid-winter. Being so far north, AirSeal must deal with cold, lengthy winters. AirSeal has grown despite these climate-related challenges, and the Backmans credit this success to AirSeal's applicators.

"We've been blessed with a wonderful crew," Rhonda Backman said. "We haven't had an unhappy customer yet. We've had nothing but glowing reports about comfort levels."
