New Leadership, Strong Focus Power Demilec's Future in the Spray Foam Industry

ARLINGTON, TX–June 19, 2014–Confidence and optimism are in ample supply at Demilec USA Inc., which has been undergoing a bit of a renaissance lately. Acquired by Sun Capital in Q4 2013, the firm has installed new leadership focused on directing it to new heights in the dynamic spray foam industry, and beyond.
“With Demilec’s current portfolio of products and services, we see tremendous potential to grow the company,” said CEO Zain Mahmood. “Based on just the organic growth of the market, along with some new products, technologies, and services, we expect our core business to double in the next three to five years.”
The company hasn’t been shy about its aggressive growth strategies, which comprised a key aspect of Sun’s foresight in making the deal with Demilec.
“They basically acquired Demilec based on its value proposition in the marketplace and the strong growth it has demonstrated, and also has the potential to deliver, in the next five to ten years,” said Mahmood.
Delivering on that growth potential begins with Mahmood, who was recruited by Sun to instill the culture and leadership personnel necessary to achieve Demilec’s goals. With experience in numerous markets, from industrial systems to building materials, Mahmood brings his broadly successful background to the spray foam industry.
“Each business that I have worked in has grown in double digits every year,” he said. “I fix the fundamentals of the business, and figure out ways to grow.”
By no means does Mahmood plan to do it alone. In the past six months, he has recruited new leadership for Demilec, including Darryl Halbert as CFO and Ken Schwieterman as VP of Global Operations.
“They each bring very strong, distinguished, blue chip backgrounds in each of their areas,” said Mahmood. “We are bringing consistency and standardization to the company based on the background that myself and Ken bring from Six Sigma.”
Additionally, Craig Robertson was recently brought on board as VP of Sales and Marketing, and Demilec veteran Robert Naini was called on to lead the company’s specialty applications business.
“The intention is to provide a formal structure for the company, and turn it into a global powerhouse of polyurethanes, building materials, and any other areas we want to grow in,” explained Mahmood. “Robert is leading what I would call our Specialty/OEM business, to really take these unique applications and grow that business tenfold over the next five years.”
Before any of the growth of the core and specialty businesses were to happen, it was critical that the company establish a newly focused culture–a refined identity. What better way to initiate that than with a new logo chosen by Demilec’s 200-plus-person team?
“The logo had to stand for who we are and what we believe, so the best way that we could do that was to have our team pick it, because this is our brand,” said Mahmood. “I think it’s the best way to build ownership of a brand.”
When the new logo was announced in April 2014, the meaning behind the new design touched on the market Demilec serves, the company’s dedication to green products, and the strength of the company’s team members. Perhaps the most prominent aspect, and the one with the clearest company focus, involves the strength of Demilec’s relationship with its customers, which Robertson commented on in a recent press release.
“Our primary focus is to satisfy the needs of our customers,” he said. “Our commitment is to help our Demilec contractors to be more productive, more profitable, and to work more safely on their jobs than ever before.”
Mahmood echoed those sentiments in further detail.
“We are fixing some of the fundamental needs in the company in terms of how we serve customers: how we solve problems; how we respond to credit situations; how we deal with customers on a day-to-day basis,” he explained. “We believe our extensive reach of technical support throughout our marketplace is one of Demilec’s key advantages.”
The foundation of that service and support starts with the Demilec Advantage Program, which deals with what Mahmood described as one of Demilec’s core competencies, and one of their contractor customers’ biggest concerns: maximizing the foam sprayed per board foot.
“The Demilec Advantage Program can be very advantageous for our contractor partners as we move along,” said Mahmood. “It allows small and large contractors to get prepared so they can increase the effectiveness of their spray equipment and spray capabilities on a day-to-day basis using the Demilec platform.”
Beyond service offerings, products continue to be a major focus at Demilec, as the company puts extensive resources into R&D not only for the previously mentioned specialty applications, but also to perpetually improve the overall sustainability of its product portfolio for construction applications.
“We are working on certain technologies that we believe will truly revolutionize this space, bringing in more green technologies which will benefit architects, homeowners, home builders, and contractors,” said Mahmood. “We want to be at the leading edge in all of those areas…we want to be the health, safety, and comfort brand.”
In reaching such worthwhile aspirations, Demilec has begun by focusing on the foundation of every enduring success: people.
“At the end of the day, a company is not just its products or services, a company is a group of people who get together for a greater cause,” said Mahmood. “In my six months at Demilec, I’m very impressed with the existing team, their capabilities, what we are bringing to the marketplace…our goal, I believe, is to take this brand to the next level.”
