Maine Contracting Company Completes Ship Hangar Project With Positive Results

HARPSWELL, ME – December 8, 2011 – Daniel Bahr and his brother Merlin Bahr, both owners of Westbrook, Maine-based High Efficiency Foam, recently completed a job in Harpswell, Maine that involved the installation of spray foam insulation on the doors of the Great Island Boat Yard storage hangar.

“We were contacted by Benchmark Construction Company about the job,” Bahr said. “They originally wanted to install fiberglass onto the doors, but opted to install spray foam insulation so they could complete the job right the first time.”

Due to the indoor setting of the job site, Bahr’s two-man crew spent a considerable amount of time preparing the area before working by installing overspray protection around the area.

Once the overspray protection was completed, the crew began applying two and a half inches of closed cell spray foam from scissor lifts on three different hangar doors, each measuring at approximately 560, 616 and 1,680 square feet, respectively.

The crew then trimmed off the excess foam from the door framing so that the construction crew would have no problems installing the sheet metal face.

Bahr’s crew successfully completed the job in just three days, and was met with positive reactions from the shipyard managers.

“Everyone was very impressed with how neatly we did the job, how clean it came out and how we controlled our overspray, and they were also impressed by how flat my brother was able to lay the foam even on the uneven corrugated surface,” Bahr said. “The only problem we faced with this job was making sure the overspray did not get on any of the surrounding boats and moving door parts.”

With the success of the job, Bahr plans to work with the shipyard managers again.

“They are looking at contacting us again for future spray foam projects,” Bahr said.
