Energy One America Applies Open Cell Spray Foam to Polo Horse Barn

EDISTO ISLAND, SC – September 26, 2012 – When a stable owner wanted to insulate a barn housing his prized polo horses, he called on Energy One America to tackle the job.

The existing structure was located on farmland and had no insulation. Since there is living space above the stables, the owner had to consider several issues when deciding what type of insulation to use.

Reid McCall, Marketing Director at Energy One, said the owner wanted to keep the barn cool for the animals. It was also necessary to limit noise transference between the stables and living space, as well as use a material that seals air leaks to limit odors. Open-cell spray foam was chosen, according to McCall, because it is effective in addressing all of these issues.

"Horses can get spooked easily even by rain on a metal roof, particularly younger horses," McCall said.

The stables were over 3,000 sq. ft. in area with a 1,600 sq. ft. living space above. The total spray area was over 5,000 sq. ft. Prior to applying the foam, Energy One covered whatever was not being sprayed with plastic wrap for overspray protection.

Crewmembers applied 3.5 inches of Sealite, an open-cell spray foam made by NCFI, to the walls and gables, and 5 inches to the roof of the barn.

It took two crewmembers about a day and a half to complete the project, which was finished in September of this year.
