CPI Releases New Guidelines for Polyurethane Freight Loading and Securement

WASHINGTON, D.C.–August 20, 2012–The Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI) of the American Chemistry Council (ACC) has released a new guidance document on freight loading and securement for intermodal domestic and international polyurethane shipments. The document, which is intended for transportation professionals that ship or receive polyurethane related materials, contains basic principles and examples of good practices. The document, "Guidelines for Freight Securement: Freight Loading and Securement for Chemical Shipments in the Polyurethane Industry," is available for free on CPI's website.

"Our new guidelines for freight securement offer important information and guidance on shipping polyurethane products and raw materials," said CPI Senior Director Lee Salamone.

The comprehensive guidance document provides information on useful and essential safety mechanisms, preload inspection of trailers and containers, restraint systems, and the closure of the transport containers. Clear, detailed photographs provide helpful representations of appropriate freight loading and securement practices. This document also references regulatory and modal requirements governing these shipments.

These guidelines are available for free on CPI's website under the "Product, Resources and Document Library" section.
