California Spray Foam Contracting Company Completes 460,000-Square-Foot Project for Data Storage Company

Sacramento, CA – December 13, 2011 – In the business of computer data storage, every fine detail must be considered to prevent any form of data loss.

RagingWire Enterprise Solutions, Inc., a computer data storage company located in Sacramento, Calif., relies heavily on functional facilities to maintain and support the vast volumes of data its servers and computers hold.

A common problem found in many aged buildings is roof leakage.

Often a lingering threat to many data storage companies, relative to its need to keep operations functional at all times, is roof leakage.

To respond to the threat, RagingWire began searching for a way to seal its roofs with the most reliable and durable product they could find.

The answer was spray polyurethane foam insulation.

After sifting through a number of bids from roofing contractors around the Sacramento area, RagingWire decided on hiring Thermal Roof Systems to handle its current roof improvement project.

“We believed that spray polyurethane foam insulation is a far superior product for the roofs, provided that it is applied correctly,” said Tom Schaal, vice president of Sales and Marketing.

The 460,000-square-foot project called for Thermal Roof Systems to apply spray foam insulation, as well as roof coating on the roofs of three RagingWire facilities over the course of several months.

Thermal Roof Systems sent a seven-man crew to begin work on the first facility.

At 123,000 square feet, the building’s roof was not in ideal shape for occupancy, requiring the crew to perform a roof “tear-off.”

“There was a cap sheet roof already in place,” Schaal said. “It needed to come off and much of the substrate needed to be replaced.”

After cap sheet and substrate replacement, DensDeck was applied for fire protection along with IsoBoard for additional insulation. Both materials were screwed onto the substrate, and spray polyurethane foam was then sprayed on the top. Roofing coatings were applied on top of the foam to finish off the project.

Several months following the successful completion of the first RagingWire building, Thermal Roof Systems was assigned to work on the adjacent facility.

Measuring out to be 193,000 square feet, Thermal Roof Systems had no problem working on the second building, despite it being occupied by RagingWire employees working in full operation.

“The roof deck did not require a tear-off,” Schaal said. “We were able to re-roof without disrupting the company’s ongoing business.”

The crew worked in ideal summer conditions, and was able to work 14-hour days to speed up the completion of the project.

The final building of the three-part project called for Thermal Roof Systems to remove the ballast rock on the roof RagingWire’s 57,000-square-foot facility in Ashburn, Va.

Much like the first building, the Ashburn facility was not occupied, giving Thermal Roof Systems’s crew the ability freely work around the job site.

“The job was pretty straight forward,” Schaal said. “We fastened IsoBoard into the metal deck and then applied foam and coatings over the roof.”

After a month of working, Thermal Roof Systems successfully completed the final building in November 2011, receiving positive responses from the company.

The only challenge Thermal Roof System experienced during the multi-month project was working in limited time in favorable weather.

“The first and third buildings were done in early spring and late fall,” Schaal said. “We had shorter windows to work in; bad weather moving in and out. It took discipline from our crew to not spray in marginal conditions that would not optimize foam adhesion.”

For the future, Schaal says that the company will be working on future projects with the RagingWire.

“We feel we have developed an excellent relationship with trust in the product,” Schaal said. “As well as with us as a contractor to apply spray polyurethane foam and coatings in accordance to manufacturer specs, preparation and first-class workmanship.
