Record Attendance at the 2010 ICAA Convention and Trade Show

ICAA’s 2010 Convention and Trade Show convened at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas from September 23 to 25. Record attendance and a sold-out exhibit hall reflect the energy and optimism that has taken root in the insulation industry after many months of disheartening economic alarms. "An ace in the hole" was an apropos theme for the three-day meeting as insulation contractors and suppliers capitalized on the opportunity to be industry savvy and prepared for the future. What was noticeable this year was the large presence of spray foam suppliers and distributors, aiming to build relationships with insulators who install thermal insulation in new and existing buildings.

The Convention program addressed the many issues that concern insulation contractors, including hands-on opportunities to train in cutting-edge technology. The Center for the Polyurethanes Industry presented the first SPF health and safety training opportunity for insulation contractors which concluded with a written test. Other training opportunities included a session on the use of infrared technology in energy audits, and the RESNET EnergySmart Contractor Program, an new alliance between ICAA and RESNET. A session on air sealing cut through theory and graphs to the nuts and bolts of identifying trouble spots and remedying air leakage.

Participants heard an insider’s analysis of federal energy-efficiency legislation and the status of the Home Star Energy Retrofit Program, and rebates and tax incentives. The director of the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) of the Department of Energy handled a barrage of questions on how insulation contractors can identify the prime contacts for weatherization and how to overcome obstacles when working with sub-grantees like community action programs.

Outstanding Platinum Sessions addressed the challenges of the green building movement and the importance of a successful marketing strategy in identifying customers and generating profitable work.

Work has already begun on the 2011 ICAA Convention and Trade Show which will be held at the Contemporary in Orlando from September 22 to 24, 2011.
