New Chicago condos built to enhance energy efficiency

New housing units in major cities like Chicago can be exceedingly difficult to find as many potential home buyers are drawn to the newest models that feature the latest in energy efficiency upgrades, including spray foam insulation. Workers recently finished construction on a set of condos in the city, and already a majority of them have been purchased.
According to a report from Chicago Magazine, a new building on North Racine Avenue has garnered quite a bit of attention because of its innovative design. Three condos comprise the building, and already two of them have been sold thanks to a host of special features that contractors implemented during construction.
The building is 30 feet wide and has spacious rooms throughout each of its three units. The increased space, however, also presented a challenge for engineers as they wanted to achieve optimal energy efficiency. To accomplish that, they contracted a firm to apply spray foam insulation throughout the building, and installed insulated windows and other efficient technologies throughout.
"Instead of trying to cram everything in, you’ve got some space to breathe," Prudential agent Jeff Lowe said. As a result of their improved energy efficiency, the condos will likely have lower monthly energy bills than older models, he affirmed.
