Spray Foam Magazine – Show 2026 – We dedicate this issue of Spray Foam Magazine to the life and remarkable contributions of Douglas Sheehan Commette (February 22, 1966 – December 8, 2025). His unexpected passing leaves an immeasurable void in our industry and in the hearts of all who knew him.

Doug’s journey was defined by vision, innovation, and leadership. After joining Gusmer Corporation in 1989 as Marketing Manager, he quickly rose to become their President. Under his leadership, groundbreaking products like the H-20/35, GX-8, GAP spray guns, and the Mobile Spray Rig division reshaped the landscape of spray foam technology and equipment.

An advocate for the industry, Doug served on the Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance (SPFA) Management Committee and helped guide the American Plastics Council’s Alliance for Polyurethanes Industry. He was a founding board member of the Polyurea Development Association (PDA) and co-developed its influential applicator course alongside his friend, Dudley Primeaux, elevating education and safety standards nationwide.

Beyond manufacturing and associations, Doug was a pioneer in digital community building. He founded SprayFoam.com and launched Spray Foam Magazine, expanding global dialogue and connectivity among contractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, and innovators.

Doug’s entrepreneurial spirit continued with Profoam Corporation, which he helped grow alongside his partner, and long-time friend Ted Medford. Together they grew Profoam into a leading supplier of spray foam equipment and training.

But beyond business, Doug’s heart belonged to his family. He was married to Margo Commette, the Publisher of Spray Foam Magazine, whose partnership with Doug shaped both their personal life and professional journey. Their collaboration not only built a successful global publication but also set a foundation for shared vision and mutual respect.

Doug and Margo raised a family deeply intertwined with the industry. Their son Alex carries forward the family legacy in business development and marketing at Profoam, exemplifying the work ethic and curiosity Doug instilled. Their daughter Callie, while choosing a different professional path, reflects the family’s values of compassion and community service. The Commette family’s story stands as a testament to the power of collaboration, support, and generational impact.

Doug’s legacy lives on in the companies he built, the people he inspired, and the industry he helped grow. This magazine honors not just a leader, but a husband, father, son, brother, mentor, and friend whose influence will be felt for generations.
