CFS’ Products Achieve NSF Certification

CFS’ Products Achieve NSF Certification

HARTLAND, WI – November 22, 2013 – Coating & Foam Solutions, a national supplier of roof coatings and spray foam insulation has announced the results of recent product testing by NSF International. The silicone roof coatings, in the CFS product line, Roof-Tek® Poly-Sil 2500 a high solids material, and the Roof-Tek Poly-Sil 2200 standard silicone, have both passed testing to achieve the NSF P-151 Standard. NSF P151 is an evaluation for the "Health Effects from Rainwater Catchment System Components." The testing procedure and Standard evaluates cured coatings and membranes for components or materials released from the test material during the weathering process.

"Achieving this standard is further proof of just how well our Poly-Sil product resist weathering, and how long the applications will last," states Tom Meyer, Technical Director, with Coating & Foam Solutions. "Not only is this important in the geography where rain water is collected, such as the Caribbean, but for all applications of our products. P151 Certification shows that no components are lost from the Poly-Sil product over time, and demonstrates the retention of physical properties during aging. All building owners can find comfort in knowing that this roofing system is not contributing any contamination or waste into the water, or run-off, from their roof."

NSF International is committed to protecting and improving human health on a global scale. NSF International is an independent, not-for-profit organization that provides standards development, product certification, auditing, education and risk management for public health and the environment.

Manufacturers, regulators and consumers alike look to NSF International for the development of public health standards and certification that help protect the world's food, water, health and consumer products. NSF International is an accredited, third-party certification body that tests and certifies products to verify they meet these public health and safety standards. Products that meet these standards bear the NSF Mark, which is respected by consumers, manufacturers, retailers and regulatory agencies at the local, state, federal and international level.

The 'NSF Protocol P151- Health Effects Rainwater Catchment System Components,' evaluates the extraction of U.S. EPA regulated contaminants from materials used in rainwater catchment systems, such as roofing materials, coatings, paints, liners and gutters. Rainwater catchment systems are those which collect rainwater for use as potable water, and are commonly found in tropical areas such as the U.S. Virgin Islands and Bermuda. Testing involves extraction of product samples before and after extensive accelerated outdoor weathering which simulates a tropical climate. Products meeting the requirements of this protocol shall impart no contaminants at levels greater than those specified in the latest version of U.S. EPA's Drinking Water Regulations and Health Advisories.
