ACI Releases 2023 Concrete Code Collection

ACI Releases 2023 Concrete Code Collection

SPRAY FOAM NEWS – April 19, 2023 – The American Concrete Institute has released its 2023 ACI Collection of Concrete Codes, Specifications and Practices, a collection that it deems to be the “most comprehensive and largest single source of information on concrete design, construction, materials and repair.”

The collection includes over 50 codes and specifications along with more than 200 practices,  including all guides, reports, and education publications.

The ACI collection features:

  • ACI 318 “Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete”;
  • ACI 301 “Specifications for Structural Concrete”;
  • ACI 562 “Code Requirements for Assessment, Repair, and Rehabilitation of Existing Concrete Structures”; and
  • ACI 440.11 “Code Requirements for Structural Concrete Reinforced with Glass Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) Bars.”

Additionally, the 2023 version reportedly includes dozens of newly published documents ranging from codes on fiber-reinforced polymer to guides for concrete rehabilitation, shotcrete and much more.

Other categories in the ACI Collection include concrete materials, properties, design, construction, reinforcement, specialized application, repair, structural analysis and innovation, plus popular topics such as slabs, formwork and masonry.

According to the ACI, the collection is available as an online subscription, a USB drive, and a nine-volume set of books. Special online access for multiple users, entire offices, and large multi-national companies, is also available.

The ACI adds that the online subscription to the ACI Collection is the most convenient format, is always up-to-date, and includes access to every new ACI document as soon as it is published, as well as specifically developed for individual users. It also includes access to current and historical versions of ACI’s codes and specifications, along with versions in both inch-pound and S.I. units.

New ACI Shotcrete Guide

Last month, the ACI released a new guide to provide information on materials and properties of both dry-mix and wet-mix shotcrete. Additionally, ACI PRC-506-22: Shotcrete—Guide reportedly covers most aspects of the shotcrete process including application procedures, equipment requirements and responsibilities of the shotcrete crew.

According to ACI, the guide acts as a companion document to ACI SPEC-506.2: Specification for Shotcrete, discussing preconstruction trials, craftsman qualification tests, materials tests, finished shotcrete acceptance tests and equipment.

The document is reportedly written such that the numbering of all sections between the Guide and Specification documents are aligned, allowing ACI PRC-506-22 to serve as a non-mandatory commentary on the mandatory specification provisions.

ACI PRC-506-22: Shotcrete—Guide was released through the work of ACI Committee 506, which writes and maintains several guides, materials, specifications, reports, and technical notes on the use of shotcrete in structural concrete applications. The main goal of Committee 506 is to develop better guidance for the acceptance of shotcrete on projects.
