Various Insulation Efforts Efficient, Ecofriendly and Lead to Cost Savings

The movement toward green technologies has been widely discussed recently, as more companies and consumers have looked for ways to become more ecofriendly.

One such green, energy-saving technology not receiving much fanfare is spray foam insulation, which contractors typically apply through high-pressure pumps, which then expands within cracks and various crevices to block any areas that air flows through.

One company providing this advanced type of insulation is Evergreen Insulation, which initially employed simplistic solutions to remain ecofriendly. In 2007, the company utilized spray cellulose, which is made up of shredded recycled paper and is spread through a home's frame during its construction.

The company has since adopted spray foam insulation and fiberglass batts. With all three solutions now available, the insulation company has the ability to work with various clients.

"There's places that want to use fiberglass, there's places that want to cellulose and there's places we advise to use spray foam," said Dustin Derrick, Evergreen's owner and general manager. "And we may use all three products on the same house."

While these processes can be expensive at the outset, the efficiency of the insulation can lead to greater long-term savings. According to Derrick, within three to five years, most home or building owners witness this increased savings.
