Touch 'n Seal Taps Into Several Markets To Reach Success in the Spray Foam Industry

St. LOUIS, MO – December 2, 2011 – Established in the 1970s, Touch ‘n Seal has been in the business of manufacturing spray foam materials for nearly 40 years. Michael Sites, Touch ‘n Seal’s Marketing Manager of Industrial Building Materials, recently spoke with SprayFoam.com about the company’s origins as well as its future plans.

In its initial stages, Touch ‘n Seal manufactured one-component spray foam in aerosol cans. The company later began developing two-component spray foams aimed at making commercial, residential and industrial buildings more energy efficient.

When developing products, Sites says that one of the company’s goals is to make as little impact on the environment as possible.

“We’ve worked diligently to improve environmental safety by developing products that are not hazardous to the atmosphere,” he said. “The company is continually improving its positive environmental impact by reducing the exposure of ozone-depleting chemicals.”

Over the past several years, Touch ‘n’ Seal has focused its attention on weatherization contractors.

“Our market is divided into many segments,” Sites said. “Our largest end-user base, however, are insulation contractors.”

“These specialized contractors understand the benefits of using foam insulation in residential home weatherization projects,” Sites said.

Along with working with weatherization contractors, Touch ‘n Seal has also gained access into the underground coal mining market by developing and introducing unique spray foam insulation products to underground miners.

“We initially spent a lot of time underground with the miners to familiarize them with our foam products and to get their feedback,” Sites said. “Today, our fire retardant foam is installed in the mines to help create a clean and safe environment for the miners.”

The company’s efforts to gain entry into the mining market proved successful. Touch ‘n’ Seal is now the largest provider of spray foam materials to the underground coal mining industry, selling to 80% of the market.

Sites says that Touch ‘n Seal is also finding success in the roof tile market.

In response to increasing demand for stabilized roofing in areas prone to hurricanes, Touch ‘n’ Seal developed Storm Bond™ Roof Tile Adhesive, a high-performance, one-component, polyurethane adhesive used for attaching clay and concrete roof tile.  The adhesive complies with the High Velocity Hurricane Zone of the Florida Building Code and received a Miami-Dade County Notice of Acceptance

“Storm Bond offers superior bonding strength compared to traditional methods of installation such as nails and screws,” Sites said. “Contractors are now using our roof tile adhesive for repairs, re-roofs and new installations.”

Sites stated that the company’s roof tile adhesive has withstood 150 mph winds and is currently available to the market.

Looking towards the future, Sites says the company will continue to explore new market opportunities and continue to further their commitment to manufacturing environmentally safe, high-performance products for their customers.

“We are extremely fortunate to be a successful company, especially since the economy has hurt so many businesses,” Sites said. “Management has provided outstanding leadership and direction, and has listened to what the market wants.”
