CertainTeed® CertaSprayTM Open-Cell Spray Foam Insulation Achieves ICC-ES Approval

January 9, 2009 - Valley Forge, Pa. – CertainTeed® CertaSprayTM open-cell polyurethane spray foam insulation has received an evaluation report from the ICC Evaluation Service, Inc. (ICC-ES), confirming the product meets building code standards.

Through an analysis of CertaSpray, including testing, calculations, and quality control methods, the ICC-ES evaluation report provides third-party verification to architects, contractors, specifiers and building officials that the product meets the 2006 International Building Code®, the 2006 International Residential Code®, and the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code®. The comprehensive evaluation report, ESR-2668, will be available shortly at iccsafe.org.

“The ICC-ES serves as a critical resource for building professionals, providing a foundation of technical resources needed for code-complaint building projects,” says Howard Deck, President of CertainTeed Insulation. “With ICC-ES approval for CertaSpray, CertainTeed has strengthened its position as the building industry’s most comprehensive line of insulation products and is prepared to meet the growing demand for energy-efficient homes and buildings.”

Consisting of a two-component foam insulation, CertaSpray is sprayed into a building cavity and quickly expands to fill every opening that can potentially leak air. By reducing air leakage, CertaSpray minimizes hot and cold spots and provides outstanding comfort and indoor air quality by impeding the penetration of moisture and outdoor allergens. CertaSpray is appropriate for whole house applications, or in combination with fiberglass, and is backed by CertainTeed’s Building Science program, providing access to technical experts and best-practices for superior thermal performance.

In addition to CertaSpray, CertainTeed offers a complete line of insulation products, including time-tested and trusted fiberglass insulation batts and rolls, polyurethane spray foam, innovative vapor retarder technology, as well as highly regarded HVAC products. All of CertainTeed’s insulation products can help building professionals qualify toward credits for The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) through the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the National Association of Home Builders’ Green Building (NAHB) Program.

As part of the International Code Council, the ICC-ES is a membership association dedicated to building safety and fire prevention that develops the codes used to construct residential and commercial buildings, including homes and schools. Most U.S. cities, counties and states that adopt codes choose the International Codes developed by the International Code Council. For more information, visit www.icc-es.org.
