Spray Foam Specialist Puts Customers First

SAN ANTONIO, TX – May 1, 2014 – “My focus is taking care of my customers." That is what Tom Porter, owner and operator of Geo-Insulation, thinks is the most important characteristic for his successful spray foam business to remain prominent and surge forward.

“I prefer to work directly with the customer,” said Porter. “The whole intent of owning an insulation company was to be able to concentrate on consistent individual applications, as opposed to long-term projects. It is much more gratifying for me to be able to serve ‘Mr. and Mrs. Jones’ rather than a builder.”

Serving a geographical 50-mile radius around San Antonio, Geo-Insulation provides spray foam insulation installations for new construction and home retrofits. Geo-Insulation’s services also include fiberglass insulation, house wrap, and radiant spray barrier installations. In their three years of business, Geo-Insulation has applied thousands of square feet of SPF insulation, which according to Porter is their specialty.

Geo-Insulation primarily utilizes spray foam insulation formulated by Johns Manville and Guardian Foam. Even though Geo-Insulation installs open-cell and closed-cell foam, Porter admitted that he generally leans towards the installation of open-cell in order to cater to his client’s budget.

“Due to closed cell foam’s higher cost, I tend to recommend that it only be used for small projects, for example if a customer plans to enclose a garage or media room firmly and tightly,” said Porter. “For larger projects, I recommend to customers open-cell spray polyurethane foam application because it is more cost-effective and has most of the energy-efficient properties that closed-cell foam has. For example, if you apply 5.5 inches of open cell foam to the exterior walls and underside of the roof, you create a great R-value to the home’s envelope without having to spend the extra money on closed-cell foam.”

Porter disclosed that before his crew goes on site, that he personally completes a thorough estimate process over the phone with all of Geo-Insulation’s potential clients. He explained this process is vitally necessary and can sometimes take up to two hours to complete.

“We want to ensure we ascertain the customer’s insulation needs and review all options before moving along with an insulation installation plan,” said Porter. “We want to ascertain every detail possible and have a clear picture of the requirements of the job, so as to have no surprises when we arrive on site. We also want to clearly explain the range of benefits that insulation provides for the customer’s home.”

As a bonus for their customers’ service, Geo-Insulation provides his customers with a year’s worth of HVAC filters, a water-heater blanket and an insulation review at 12 and 24 months after the installation. Porter said that he will personally go to the homes of his senior customers and change their air filters out for free.

“I want my customers to have clean air at all times,” said Porter. “I don’t want a senior customer of mine climbing into a 110-degree San Antonio attic to change an HVAC filter. I respect them enough to where I’m more than happy to make the drive to their home and exchange the HVAC filter for them.”

Porter pointed out that Geo-Insulation goes the extra mile for their customers by making sure their insulation installation is performing well after the application.

He said that after 45 days of the application, the company will send a customer reminder card to the client asking for a callback in case there were any noticeable imperfections, or if their energy bills remained high. They will immediately reassess the project and reapply the system if necessary. Furthermore, Geo-Insulation reaches out to their customer after a year just to make sure everything is working properly and if any reassessments need to be made. They will then get in touch with the customer after a second year to make sure their insulation is still performing to the utmost quality.

As far as business goes, Geo-Insulation’s tactics and strategic planning have been rewarded with a constant growth in business via satisfied clientele. Porter describes Geo-Insulation’s business growth throughout their first three years in business as phenomenal.

“We have already matched what we accomplished throughout the entire 2013 year,” said Porter. “We project to grow over 300 percent from our past year in 2014.”
