Fire Treated Roof Sheathing Degradation
Do you have any information on closed cell spray foam insulation and its effect on fire retardant treated plywood in a warm roof assembly? Has there been any research done to see if this assembly lead to or promote the plywood degradation problem that was prevailant in the 1980's? The plywood manufacturer is stating that insulating the underside of the roof sheathing without ventilation will void the plywood warranty.

The application of closed cell sprayfoam to the underside of wood roof decking does not have a history of causing deterioration of the decking.

In fact, the ability of sprayfoam to reduce the possibiity of condensation against the wood deck would be more likely to reduce the potential for deck deterioration.

Research conducted by the National Research Council of Canada supports the use of SPF to the underside of wood decks.
