Huntsman Building Solutions Shares Cold-Weather Guidance for Spray Foam Rigs and Equipment
The Woodlands, TX – December 18, 2025 – Huntsman Building Solutions (HBS), a global leader in high performance, sustainable building envelope solutions, has released Winterization and De-Winterization guidance to spray foam contractors via a new tech video. The video provides a step-by-step process outlining the correct way to winterize, or mothball, a spray foam rig during cold, harsh winter months.
“We are in the midst of winter now and it’s the right time to provide spray foam contractors with the guidance they need to protect their rig and equipment during extreme cold,” says Dan Kinard, director of tech services with Huntsman Building Solutions. “This 11-minute tech video is designed to be easy to follow to ensure winterization success.”
In the video, which is narrated by Kinard, spray foam contractors are provided with a list of items needed to complete the rig winterization process. These materials include:
· Two 5-gallon pails (need to be new)
· Rags
· Spill absorbent materials
· Correct PPE (respiratory and skin protection)
· 10 gallons of NZD ISO flush per side
· 10 gallons of SurfaLube
· 5/16 nut driver to open manifold (if needed)
· Soap and water
“A spray foam rig needs to be winterized when it is going to sit inactive for more than a week,” says Kinard. “The primary goal of winterization is to prevent crystallization of the A-side of spray foam or deteriorization of the packings on the B-side. Thus, the process includes flushing ISO and resin out of the spray hose and equipment. The guidance also includes various steps to follow before and after flushing to ensure all equipment is protected and the process is done safely and effectively.”
