Fire or flame retarters
I am having a new home built and plan on using a open cell form sprayed on the undersides of rafters and walls. Am I understanding correctly from other post that a fire retarter is required to be sprayed over the form in attic?

building codes require an ignition barrier in attics and crawl spaces(described in the codes as 1-1/2 inches of mineral fiber, 1/4 inch of wood, .016 inches of metal or other material that has been tested and approved in accordance with full scale fire tests appropriate for the application.) Some intumescent coatings have been approved using the fire tests. For more information refer to SPFA's technical document AY 126 Thermal and Ignition Barriers for the SPF industry.
