EPDM roofs vs SPF roofs performance
Sorry to post this again but I know Mason's the Man! So here goes:
How does EPDM compare to SPF? I'm in the midwest and the wind shear resistance isn't much of a selling point here. Weight savings isn't either. The obvious insulation benefits are there but not convincing enough for the costomer. I've heard of shrinkage problems with some EPDM's but I haven't run across any good data. How can I sway a good, longtime customer of mine over to the "dark side" SPF roof systems?

Ted Michelson an roof consultant engineer performed a life cycle cost analysis of SPF roofing systems vs membrane roofing systems. The results, over a 30 year life span, SPF roofing systems cost less to install, maintain than any membrane roofing system even if you recoated every 6 years. (the average recoat is 11 to 15 years). The report can be obtained from SPFA.

This does not get into the better energy savings of SPF roofing systems. Check out Dr Mark Bombergs study on the Energy Performance of SPF Roofing Systems for that information. (again check out the report from SPFA.

I like Ted's life-cycle report much better than Carl Cash's.
