A Spray Foam Magazine Award Winner Pays It Forward to Family in Need
April 24, 2025 – Calgary, Canada – A Spray Foam Magazine award winner pays it forward to family in need. According to many of the Contractor of the Year (COTY) winners featured in Spray Foam Magazine, “Winning a COTY award is a life-changing experience.” This year, one of the winners beautifully exemplified this sentiment by choosing to donate their COTY prize for a project! Curt Janzen and Kevin Boschee, owners of Beyond Foam Insulation Ltd, were honored as Spray Foam Magazine’s Outstanding Growth and Excellence Award winners for 2024. They stood out as deserving recipients through their entrepreneurial spirit, remarkable business growth, dedication to customer loyalty, and their commitment to technological advancements and innovation.
Upon returning home to Canada from the Spray Foam Conference and Expo in Daytona, Florida, Curt and his team discovered a family facing significant hardships. The home was plagued by alarming humidity issues, especially concerning given Calgary's extreme temperature fluctuations. The combination of moisture problems and the harsh climate created truly challenging living conditions for this family. “The gentleman who owns the house is battling Stage 4 cancer, and he has reached a point where a cure seems out of reach. While he is in and out of the hospital, the family is grappling with a serious attic rain issue that has left spots on their ceiling and raised concerns about the health of their home,” explains Curt.
When Beyond’s sales team shared the situation with Curt, they asked if there was any way they could help. Touched by the story, Curt and Kevin decided to step in.
They chose to use the HEATLOK® SOYA HFO™ closed-cell foam—donated by Huntsman Building Solutions (HBS) as Beyond’s prize from Spray Foam Magazine’s COTY contest—to assist the family. By installing the foam free of charge, they seized the chance to pay it forward and offer meaningful support during a difficult time. “We see ourselves not as heroes but as supporters in their journey; they are the true champions, navigating heavy burdens concerning both their home and health,” said Curt. In a generous gesture, HBS had donated the closed-cell foam to recognize Beyond’s COTY achievement and their accomplishments. “At HBS, we are devoted to making a difference in the lives of others. Our donation of spray foam insulation to Beyond Group is a testament to this commitment, helping to provide a safe and comfortable home for a family in need. While this intervention may not directly change the homeowner’s current health challenges, it ensures the family can breathe easier knowing they won't have to confront issues like mold or mildew. By properly insulating the home and preventing moisture from infiltrating the walls, the Beyond team is fostering a healthier living environment for whoever resides there in the future. “I'd like to commend our estimating team, who consistently identify community members in need of support.
